Top tips for looking after your skin in winter
Drink plenty of water.  This one simple change will create a noticeable difference on the appearance of your skin as well as the added benefit of flushing toxins from your body.  Drinking water and reducing coffee intake will improve the hydration levels of your skin in a very short space of time. Cleanse.  Cleansing is a very important step in looking after your skin.  Using warm water and a cleanser with minimal additives, your skin will benefit greatly by preparing itself for the absorption of your moisturiser.  Did you know that unclean skin cannot effectively absorb a moisturiser?  Cleanse twice daily for best results.  Exfoliate.  Exfoliating with a gentle product with fine granules once to twice per week (no more as they can be a little drying on skin) is great for removing dead skin cells and aiding with preparing skin for your moisturiser. Moisturise.  After cleansing twice daily, apply a good quality moisturiser.  This works best if you've used warm (not hot) water to cleanse.  The pores will open and easily absorb your moisturiser.  This will work to maintain moisture levels and also to protect skin from effects of wind, air conditioning and other elements. Protect your skin from the sun.  With the warm weather approaching, it is essential for antiaging that we use sunblock when exposed to the sun.  A tinted sunblock such as O Cosmedics Mineral Pro (available at Diamond Beauty) contains zinc oxide which is gentle on skin and great for sensitive skin.  Did you know that sun damage is the number one cause of prematurely aged skin? Take shorter showers.  Showering for more than 10 minutes per day is not healthy for your skin.  Your skin retains moisture for longer by showering less.  It is also very important to avoid putting your face directly under hot water while showering. Look after your lips.  Winter has taken its toll on our skin due to many factors including being exposed to air conditioning, wind and cold.  Moisture is lost through our lips.  Resist the temptation to lick your lips as the acid in saliva causes more dryness on lips. Soak.  Create a bath of baking soda, 2 cups warm milk and a few drops of a calming essential oil such as geranium, chamomile or lavender.  This combination will be not only relaxing but will leave your skin soft and silky. Sunbath.  With proper protection, while sunbathing, the skin produces more collagen and absorbs vitamin D.  These are both needed for your skins well being. Treat yourself!   The change of season is the ideal (and recommended) time to have a facial.  Your skin will be deeply cleansed, exfoliated, nourished and hydrated to help improve its appearance after the damaging effects of winter.   Diamond Beauty recommends the Delux Botanical Facial which will leave you feeling completely rejuvenated and relaxed as well as providing wonderful mini facelift for your skin.
